Navy Crewmen
Personnel Profile:The Imperial Navy Crewmen make up the bulk of the workforce at all navy starships and installations. Crewmen perform the most basic tasks, and are the actual laborers, and administrative yeomen onboard. Their individual duties and responsibilities of course vary allot. Crewmen would normally work in one of the following mayor fields:
Information and Communication Handling
Energy and Power Management
Logistics and Supply Administration
Accounting and Office Support
Medical and Science Assistance
Fire and Decompression Fighting
Galley and Dining Operation
Living Quarters and Service MaintenanceTypical these enlisted crewmen are human draftees and volunteers from all over the galaxy. They can come from remote planets, with odd cultures, strange religions and sometimes even alien languishes. The Navy even receives applications and recruits from planets beyond the borders of the Empire. That is one of the reasons why crewmen generally are denied any access to blasters and other weaponry. Only in extreme circumstances are crewmen issued blasters and expected to fight. An example could be if a Ssi-ruuvi or Yuuzhan Vong boarding operation was imminent. But whatever the background, all recruits undergo the same intensive training and education at one of the many Navy Recruit Training facilities around the galaxy.
Many join the Navy without prior attending any space academy or having space-working experience. In some cases without even having left their homeworld before. Academy experience is not necessary for enlisted personnel, but it can give the crewmen greater carrier opportunities. For instance an Academy graduate would most likely be experienced and qualified enough during basic training to be awarded a position as group leader. The future crewmen are all given Basic Training, from which they go on to job-specific training to be used in their future assignments. Many draftees are given the opportunity to go professional and stay in the Imperial Navy after their obligatory service period. Many of course welcome this great opportunity to adventure, travel and at the same time fight for an orderly and peaceful galaxy.
As enlisted personnel go higher in rank, they undergo new and more specific training and the crewmen's duties and responsibilities increase. Higher rank enlisted personnel are called noncommissioned officers (NCOs / Petty Officers) and usually are given charge over lower rank enlisted personnel. Onboard starships and installations, the highest ranking position for enlisted personnel is the Master Chief Petty Officer. He is the head officer for all enlisted personnel onboard and is a member of the senior staff. Enlisted personnel do have the ability to get their own commissions and become officers. If they show promise and are recommended by officers, they can if they want apply for further specialized training within a certain specialty. This would take place at an Imperial Navy Academy where they would be "promoted" to Officer Cadets.
