Few know the details of the infamous Dark Trooper project. The files have been heavily encrypted. The Imperial Engineers were sworn to secrecy. And the Rebels who faces the machines in combat never lives long enough to pass on any information.

The Dark Troopers were the brainchildren of General Rom Mohc, a decorated Imperial officer obsessed with personal combat. He vociferously protested against the construction of the Imperial I Death Star, arguing that all soldiers deserve the chance to face their enemy one-on-one. When the Death Star detonated above Yavin, Mohc was given the perfect opportunity to advance his cause.

Several dozen of Mohc's mechanical men swiftly went from prototype to finished version aboard the Arc Hammer - a titanic spacegoing construction facility completed at the starship yards of Kuat. The droids first combat test, a successful, surgical strike, utterly decimated a Rebel base on the planet Talay. An impressed Lord Darth Vader ordered General Mohc to continue with the production.

The First model of the Battle droids are the Phase I Dark Trooper. Well suitable for close combat, the Phase I is little more than a metal skeleton. Its structural frame, forearm shield, and razor-edged carving blade are cast from phrik steel, an exceptionally durable alloy found primarily on the moons of the Gromas system. But the Empire also has phrik mining facilities on other outer rim worlds, such as Tatooine.

The Phase II is the standard combat unit. Its additional phrik body shell makes it tougher than the Phase I, while its repulsorlift engine and flight jets gives it superior maneuverability in the air. Each Phase II carries a devastating assault cannon that fires plasma shells and long range explosive rockets.

A Phase III Dark Trooper is the Ultimate assault trooper. Produced only in a very limited number over the past 20 years. Even more massive than the Phase II, this unstoppable, 3 meter tall behemoth sports a nasty cluster of firing tubes connected to a seemingly endless supply of seeker missiles. These rockets, while slow, homes in on a target and packs enough detonite to obliterate the strongest personal shielding. The Phase III is designed to operate independently but can also be worn by a human operator as an exosuit.

There are very few Dark Trooper construction facilities spread throughout the galaxy. All are well hidden from Rebel Forces and well guarded by Imperial troops.
