Navy Technicians

Personnel Profile:

Like the standard Navy Crewmen, Navy Technicians are draftees and volunteers from all over the galaxy. But unlike the ordinary Crewmen composition, there is generally a much larger ratio of professionals within the Technician ranks. This is also one of the reasons why the average age of the technician is a bit higher then of the crewman. Nevertheless the Imperial Navy needs and relies greatly on drafted young men as a recruitment base for the better and older professional workforce.

Technicians nearly always poses technical work experience prior to Navy recruitment and training. Technical minded recruits are already at the Navy Recruitment Office recommended for technician training and assignments. A technician's work of course includes maintenance, repair and diagnostics of electrical, mechanical and computer systems. They also perform many other duties and normally specialize in one of the following mayor areas:

Energy and Power
Scanners and Sensors
Weapons and Armaments
Computers and Terminals
Engines and Propulsion
Recycling and Lifesupport
Construction and Engineering

Naturally there are countless sub specialties within each field. Many Navy installations and capital ships even crave technicians with very specific and special expertise. Sometimes technicians are even hand picked directly out of boot-camp and given unique training that prepares them for their future assignments.

Of course the Navy most take in consideration that many technicians are still only draftees and their loyalty could be questioned. Draftees are therefor never given jobs that are confidential or secret of nature. Naval operations and projects that could be classified as such, make use of pure professional enlisted and loyal workers. Just as the ordinary crewmen, technicians are not given access to blasters and other weaponry. Only in extreme circumstances are technicians issued blasters and expected to engage in combat.

The ordinary crewmen are normally distinguished by their uniform; light grey overalls and dark grey cap. Technicians wear the same uniform as ordinary crewmen, but are instead issued with a black cap. Technicians are also equipped with a wrist computer or PDA, and are rarely seen without it.
