This design was the result of a fruitful alliance the Chiss Ascendancy made with the Galactic Empire years ago. The Nssis Class Clawcraft, or Chiss Clawcraft, was build by the Chiss government with very little help from Sienar Fleet Systems and Imperial engineers. It is unknown exactly how many Chiss Clawcraft the Chiss constructed for the Imperial war effort. Non of them came under direct control of the Imperial Starfleet and the Chiss were and still are a very secretive people towards "outsiders".

Nevertheless this ship was a formidable craft and served the Empires interests well. The model was named Clawcraft for its appearance and was basically constructed from the cockpit and engines of a standard TIE Fighter. Instead of the cheap hexagonal solar panels of the TIE Fighter the Clawcraft was equipped with more costly curved, arm-like wings with inbuilt laser cannons. As it had no solar panels, this craft was constructed with a more powerful energy generator then the TIE Fighter's. In contrast to most TIE models this starfighter was also equipped with shields and hyperdrive engine.
