The TIE/gs, sometimes referred to as the TIE Extended Fighter, is a planetary superiority fighter version of the original TIE/ln Fighter model. This craft is designed specifically for short range planetary patrol and defense duties. The TIE/gs can also be used in short range space missions, assuming the pilot wears a sealed flight suit, but perform its function much better in a planetary atmosphere than in deep space. The TIE/gs Fighter's attached repulsorlift booster engine gives it a remarkable fast atmospheric cruising speed and maneuverability, which is comparable to the TIE interceptor's.
